Meet the Innkeepers

Sheila and Fred Heap have been the resident innkeepers/owners of Centre Street Inn since January of 1994 ... and are open from Daffodil Festival through mid-October ... and for Christmas Stroll.

The Heaps are both Massachusetts natives ... and met in 1967 while working in the Boston area. They moved to Hingham in 1970, and raised both their daughters there. They still return during the off season when the inn is closed to enjoy their family ... which now includes five grandchildren ... ages 3 to 10 ... four granddaughters and one grandson! Two dogs complete the family, Minnie, a Norwich Terrier, and Britta, a Brittany.

Prior to innkeeping, Sheila was an HR Manager for a manufacturing company in West Bridgewater; Fred was a management professor at several area colleges.

Sheila and Fred vacationed on Nantucket each July, since 1974, with their daughters, renting a cottage overlooking the harbor, and came to consider Nantucket their 2nd home ... dreaming of one day buying an inn on the island .. and in 1993, that dream became a reality when they ventureed forth making an offer on the Holiday Inn at 78 Centre Street.

Fred enjoys boating with his C-Dory, and several years ago, was instrumental in establishing a Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla on Nantucket. Sheila enjoys being part of an investment group ... a group of 15 women who have been investing together since 1996. she is also actively involved in a local political Town Committee ... and both she and Fred enjoy their memberships in the NHA and the Egan Instiute for Maritime Studies.

During the winter, when they are in vacation mode, Sheila and Fred enjoy traveling, mostly cruising on Holland America to the warm and sunny Caribbean!
